3 Steps to Know Your Customer

Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures are a critical function to assess and monitor customer risk and a legal requirement to comply with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Laws.
Do you know your customer? You better, if you’re a financial institution (FI) or you face possible fines, sanctions and maybe even public ridicule if you do business with a money launderer or terrorist. More importantly, it’s a fundamental practice to protect your FI from fraud and losses due to illegal funds and transactions.

“KYC” refers to the steps taken by a financial institution (or business) to:

    Establish customer identity
Understand the nature of the customer’s activities (primary goal is to satisfy that the source of the customer’s funds is legitimate)
Assess money laundering risks associated with that customer for purposes of monitoring the customer’s activities
To create and run an effective KYC program requires the following elements[/li][/list]

    1) Customer Identification Program (CIP)

How do you know someone is who they say they are? After all, identity theft is widespread, affecting over 13 million US consumers and accounting for 15 billion dollars stolen in 2015. If you’re a US financial institution, it’s more than a financial risk; it’s the Law.

The CIP mandates that any individual conducting financial transactions needs to have their identity verified. As a provision in the Patriot Act, it’s designed to limit money laundering, terrorism funding, corruption and other illegal activities. The desired outcome is that financial institutions accurately identify their customers:

A critical element to a successful CIP is a risk assessment, both on the institutional level and on procedures for each account. While the CIP provides guidance, it’s up to the individual institution to determine the exact level of risk and policy for that risk level.

    2) Customer Due Diligence

For any financial institution, one of the first analysis made is to determine if you can trust a potential client. You need to make sure any potential customer is worthy; customer due diligence (CDD) is a critical element of effectively managing your risks and protecting yourself against criminals, terrorists, and corrupt Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs).

There are three levels of due diligence:

Simplified Due Diligence (“SDD”) are situations where the risk for money laundering or terrorist funding is low and a full CDD is not necessary. For example, low value accounts or accounts where checks are being on other levels
Basic Customer Due Diligence (“CDD”) is information obtained for all customers to verify the identity of a customer and asses the risks associated with that customer.
Enhanced Due Diligence (“EDD”) is additional information collected for higher-risk customers to provide a deeper understanding of customer activity to mitigate associated risks. In the end, while some EDD factors are specifically enshrined in a countries legislations, it’s up to a financial institution to determine their risk and take measures to ensure that they are not dealing with bad customers.
    3) Ongoing Monitoring

It’s not enough to just check your customer once, you need to have a program that knows your customer on an ongoing basis. The ongoing monitoring function includes oversight of financial transactions and accounts based on thresholds developed as part of a customer’s risk profile.

Up to now, regulations call for a risk-based assessment. However, as of January 1, 2017 The New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) requires specific measures of transaction monitoring and filtering.

Renewable Energy / Why is renewable energy important?

    Why is renewable energy important?

Renewable energy is important because of the benefits it provides. The key benefits are:

    Environmental Benefits

Renewable energy technologies are clean sources of energy that have a much lower environmental impact than conventional energy technologies.

Energy for our children's children's children

Renewable energy will not run out. Ever. Other sources of energy are finite and will some day be depleted.

    Jobs and the Economy

Most renewable energy investments are spent on materials and workmanship to build and maintain the facilities, rather than on costly energy imports. Renewable energy investments are usually spent within the United States, frequently in the same state, and often in the same town. This means your energy dollars stay home to create jobs and fuel local economies, rather than going overseas.

Meanwhile, renewable energy technologies developed and built in the United States are being sold overseas, providing a boost to the U.S. trade deficit.

    Energy Security

After the oil supply disruptions of the early 1970s, our nation has increased its dependence on foreign oil supplies instead of decreasing it. This increased dependence impacts more than just our national energy policy.

Renewable Energy / Types of Renewable Energy

    Types of Renewable Energy

Solar shingles are installed on a rooftop. Credit: Stellar Sun Shop
The United States currently relies heavily on coal, oil, and natural gas for its energy. Fossil fuels are non-renewable, that is, they draw on finite resources that will eventually dwindle, becoming too expensive or too environmentally damaging to retrieve. In contrast, the many types of renewable energy resources-such as wind and solar energy-are constantly replenished and will never run out.

Most renewable energy comes either directly or indirectly from the sun. Sunlight, or solar energy, can be used directly for heating and lighting homes and other buildings, for generating electricity, and for hot water heating, solar cooling, and a variety of commercial and industrial uses.

The sun's heat also drives the winds, whose energy, is captured with wind turbines. Then, the winds and the sun's heat cause water to evaporate. When this water vapor turns into rain or snow and flows downhill into rivers or streams, its energy can be captured using hydroelectric power.

Along with the rain and snow, sunlight causes plants to grow. The organic matter that makes up those plants is known as biomass. Biomass can be used to produce electricity, transportation fuels, or chemicals. The use of biomass for any of these purposes is called bioenergy.

Hydrogen also can be found in many organic compounds, as well as water. It's the most abundant element on the Earth. But it doesn't occur naturally as a gas. It's always combined with other elements, such as with oxygen to make water. Once separated from another element, hydrogen can be burned as a fuel or converted into electricity.

Not all renewable energy resources come from the sun. Geothermal energy taps the Earth's internal heat for a variety of uses, including electric power production, and the heating and cooling of buildings. And the energy of the ocean's tides come from the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun upon the Earth.

In fact, ocean energy comes from a number of sources. In addition to tidal energy, there's the energy of the ocean's waves, which are driven by both the tides and the winds. The sun also warms the surface of the ocean more than the ocean depths, creating a temperature difference that can be used as an energy source. All these forms of ocean energy can be used to produce electricity.

    Digital Agriculture

Big data, analytics and machinery that is becoming increasingly smarter and more autonomous are transforming the world of agriculture as we know it. Technological innovation is on the fast track to facilitate productivity in the agricultural sector, supporting a global population that is increasing by over 80 million people each year. Topsoil continues to erode at an alarming rate, and unpredictable weather patterns present frequent challenges to farmers, demanding nuanced real-time responses. Digital, user-friendly innovations, designed to help monitor and mitigate these challenges are needed to increase efficiencies, and to meet food quality expectations and demand.

Digital technologies and analytics are used to optimize key components of food systems, increasing productivity and profitability, while reducing environmental impacts. Virtually all stages of production, from refining crop genetics to managing transportation logistics, have the potential to be digitally integrated in the near future. This digital agricultural revolution will provide new means and methods for farmers to further optimize management of resources, improve crop quality and quantity, and remain productive in a changing climate.

Digital agriculture research projects at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

    How does it work?

From milking robots on dairy farms to greenhouses with fully-automated climate control – opportunities abound to integrate digital agricultural systems.
For example, in a field operation a host of sensors at ground and crop level can provide real-time information on soil health, water availability, crop fertility needs, and pest and disease pressure, while satellites and drones monitor weather changes, field conditions and crop health from above. Complex software will analyze this constant influx of data and package it into usable information, delivered to the farmer’s cell phone in real-time, providing precise guidance on what to do next. What specific actions are needed to optimize crop growth? Are pest levels reaching a threshold where they will adversely affect crop yield or quality?

Smart farm machinery, equipped with real-time kinematic (RTK) global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and other sensors, will aid in the farmer’s response to emerging needs and opportunities – planting seeds with millimeter precision in the right place at the right time, and applying nutrients and pesticides only where and when needed. Specialized software aids in tracking tasks such as seeding, watering, and nutrient applications, and associate relationships between specific activities and their impact on crop development and yield.

Come harvest time, a network of sensors will track crop yield along with quality values, like water or nutrient content, in real-time and with reference to an exact field location. Radio frequency identification (RFID) will make it possible to track a head of lettuce sold in any grocery store back to the specific farm and field where it was grown.

Technological innovation, coupled with careful research, teaching and outreach, can provide useful and exciting tools to support food production on into the future.

Banks in Bangladesh ‘ignorant’ about cyber security: Research

Bank officials in Bangladesh are largely ‘ignorant’ about cyber security in financial institutions, a research by the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) has revealed.

Of the bank officials surveyed, some 28 percent were found ‘totally ignorant’ and another 20 percent ‘ignorant’. Only 20 percent respondents showed ‘some knowledge’ on the issue.

The research findings were released at a workshop in Dhaka on Tuesday, as ransomware ‘WannaCry’ attacks hit over 100 countries. The malware has reportedly affected dozens of computers in Bangladesh.

Associate Professor of BIBM Mahbubur Rahman Alam and Naj Ahmed of NajDac Technologies presented two papers at the workshop held at BIBM auditorium in Mirpur.

Among the 21 banks sampled, 14 were private, three public sector and as many international banks.

The research also showed that only four percent of the bank officials have ‘very sound knowledge’, 10 percent ‘sound knowledge’ and 16 percent have ‘some knowledge’ about the cyber security issues.

Some 90 percent of the respondents, however, said the “the risk of cyber attacks in the banking sector is increasing by the day”.

Chief guest at the workshop, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank SK Sur Chowdhury said, “Almost Tk 300 billion has been spent in past few years on cyber security and Tk 15 billion yearly on the maintenance of IT department.”

But, he was disappointed that the spending has not produced the desired result.

“Still, many banks have failed to reach the security standards set out in the guidelines of the central bank. For this reason, the banking sector is still at the risk of cyber attacks,” he added.

Bangladesh should invest in ‘Nanotechnology’ to enter in ‘Technical Textiles’ production

The history of nanotechnology begun by the physicist Richard Feynman who identified potentiality of nanotechnology in December 1959.Now it is assumed that the next industrial revolution is right around the corner because of nanotechnology.

Today when Bangladesh has a potential history of producing quality textile and apparel goods, the country should look for the opportunities of producing other value added products. Meanwhile the country has developed a good base in textile education. Numbers of Bangladeshi researchers are working abroad in different universities and companies, many of them on nanotechnology. Many of those researchers are willing to come back to Bangladesh with a mindset to help the country. If the government and private sector take initiative to invest in ‘Nanotechnology’ to produce different technical textiles and other textile support products, the existing workforce can come in to play.

Nanotechnology overcomes the limitations of applying conventional method to impart certain properties to textile materials. There is no doubt that over the years, nanotechnology has penetrated into every area of the textile industry and its presence will continue to increase.

Nanotechnology at the molecular level can be used to develop desired textile characteristics, such as high tensile strength, unique surface structure, soft hand, durability, water repellency, fire retardancy, antimicrobial properties. The textile industry has already been impacted by nanotechnology.

    Application of nanotechnology in Textile:

    Swimming suit
    UV protective Finish
    Self-cleaning fabrics
    Anti-static finishers
    Wrinkle free cloth
    Anti-bacterial finishes
Besides, in the smart clothes the textile structures themselves perform electronic or electric functions. Ideally, the Nanoelectronic components will be completely fused with the textile

material, resulting in that textile and non-textile components cannot be differentiated and ‘foreign particles’ can no longer be seen or felt.

Day by day, the importance of nanotechnology in the textile sectors is increasing all over the world. The global technical textiles market was valued at nearly US$ 155 Billion in 2015. On back of strong demand, by 2020, the global technical textiles market is estimated to pull in US$ 193 Billion in revenues as per the Future Market Insights information. A major portion of these Technical Textiles products are using nanotechnology.

China, India, Japan and many other countries already have taken necessary steps to give a new shape of their textile industry through nanotechnology.

Asia Pacific is the largest market for technical textiles, both in terms of production and consumption. Thus, many textile-manufacturing companies are investing in R&D to increase the production of technical textiles. The Asia Pacific technical textile market is expected to continue its dominance of the global market through 2020. In 2015, Asia Pacific accounted for nearly 40% revenue share of the global technical textiles market.

It is worthy to mention that China has launched a comprehensive program called “Double Incentive Scheme” for technical textiles. Whereas India has also issued relief packages for the promotion of technical textiles. India, in next 5 years, will provide $170-$200 million to promote technical textiles. And there is no doubt that this wise step will give India a huge advantage to gain the market of technical textiles.

From this aspect, as a giant exporter of textile products, both the government and industrialists must take adequate step to sustain economic growth, which is not possible without exploring new areas. Therefore, it is time to allocate resources and cope with the modern trend of nanotechnology in textile to enhance and sustain the growth of our economy.

Researchers told that ‘Nanotechnology’ based production of textiles and technical textiles won’t require huge investment like the traditional textile companies require. The risk also will be less as Bangladesh also has a good local market. 170 million people in Bangladesh are using technical textiles and this trend will increase day by day. Such industry will also produce products which will be used as input materials to the other textile and allied industries.

    The Benefits of Networking Events

Often confused with selling, networking is actually the art of creating and strengthening mutually beneficial relationships over time. More than just building a good reputation, networking is critical for professional growth and business development.

Networks includes peers, industry associations, business groups and even personal contacts like family and friends. Networking events can range from large scale trade shows and conferences to small social gatherings. There are also plenty of opportunities to network online, which are particularly useful if you’re trying to establish relationships with people and businesses overseas.

If you put enough time and energy into networking, it could become one of the most valuable assets to your business. When it’s done well, networking can actually help you grow your brand and your business. Let’s take a look at the benefits of networking in greater detail.

    Raise Your Profile
Whether you’re a solo entrepreneur or part of a large company, it’s important to be visible and get noticed. One of the best ways to do this is by regularly attending professional and social events. By continually contributing information and tips to people who need it, you’ll quickly establish a reputation as being a knowledgeable and reliable contact in your industry sector.

The goal here is to become the ‘go-to’ point for advice, information, products and services. A powerful and effective way to do this is by hosting your own networking event. This will give your business almost unlimited branding opportunities and the opportunity to be seen as a market leader. Presenting a professional image is absolutely imperative, so invest in quality promotional materials by specialist events suppliers such as Signal Events.

    Build New Business

By meeting new contacts and expanding your network, you may gain access to new customers and suppliers, and ultimately, expand and grow your business.

    Maintain Energy and Drive

Building and maintaining a successful business takes a lot of time and energy. Having a strong network of people around you will help you to maintain your drive and focus. You’re far more likely to succeed if you surround yourself with people who share a similar drive and ambition in life.

    Share Knowledge and Information
Networking events provide a fantastic forum for exchanging ideas and knowledge. Specifically, they can help you gain access to:

    Latest industry information and developments
    Best business practices
Suggestions and guidance from experienced peers
Advice on how to avoid common business challenges and pitfalls.

    Access Resources
The cardinal rule of networking is that it’s a two-way street. The value of a network is that it provides advantages for all parties involved. For example, if you offer genuine assistance to your contacts, you’re more likely to receive support when you need it. Networking events can provide significant opportunities to build new business partnerships, such as finding new suppliers and even investors.

No matter how big your business is or what industry sector you operate within, networking events are a must. They help you to develop professionally by discussing and sharing new and exciting ideas. They can also provide you with opportunities to expand your business by introducing you to new business partners such as suppliers and investors.

Creativity and Innovation in Teaching and Learning, Supervision and Assessment

    INTRODUCTION

Creativity and innovation is the essence of teaching and learning including in the social sciences discipline. Creativity and innovation bring about interest and motivation to learners of English as well as English teacher-trainees, which eventually lead to learning. Gone are the days of a Professor delivering a lecture while standing behind a rostrum in a huge lecture hall in a one-way communication mode where his/ her words are words of God, and students sit quietly embracing his/her words, busy taking down notes; those days have long been over and they have been replaced with more innovative and creative ways of disseminating, sharing and facilitating knowledge development in students. Our students are tired of the old school approach to learning a language – they want something practical, relevant and useful for their professional life. With computer being their flesh and blood; and living in the era where they are allowed to question on things and they are empowered to be partly responsible for their learning, creativity and innovation have been incorporated in my teaching and learning, assessment and supervision.

    HOW CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION SUPPORT

Coupled with technology, newer approaches to T&L such as Outcome-Based Learning (OBE), Student-Centred Learning (SCL), Problem-based learning (PBL), Case Study (CS) have also emerged in recent decade and research has proven that many have positive impact on learning. I strongly believe in the supremacy of these approaches to teaching and learning as they empower students to be responsible for their own learning and help them to become active learners; sometimes getting hands-on experience, getting their hands “dirty” by doing things the way they should be rather than the way theories say they should be. Using some of the approaches mentioned, in the context of my area of expertise, students are allowed to “experiment” on the language and find out for themselves what is right or wrong as in the case of those attending the university compulsory English courses; as for my TESL teacher trainees attending my CALL classes, through these approaches, I facilitate them in discovering for themselves the language and communication tools available and to experiment on them to get a feel of using and incorporating the tools in their T&L in the future. These will be explained further in the following sub-sections

An innovator will constantly think of better ways of doing things; an innovative educator will constantly formulate new ways and approaches to teaching and learning to maximise the output i.e. learning.

As a strong believer in the supremacy of technology, namely the computer in enhancing teaching and learning especially to the Y-generation who grows with the technology in their background, the computer can be an effective tool, an agent, for learning as I have demonstrated over the years through research, paper presentation and publication I have written, how it can be very effectively used both in and out of the language classroom.

    What is Buzz marketing

Buzz marketing is a type of viral marketing ploy that uses a lot of strategically placed hints pertaining to advertising. This type of marketing strategy aims to generate popularity among consumers via words of mouth. However, one can ask how does it work exactly? What could be the exact requirements as to making this a marketing ploy that can work for your business plan in the future?

We will try to answer these questions by giving you the concrete examples as to what you can expect from buzz marketing as one of your tools to successfully driving an advertising campaign for any product of your choosing.

    How Does Buzz Marketing Work?

With buzz marketing, you will end up using a more theatrical approach to advertising. Your aim is to exaggerate the promotional value of a certain product in order to gain interest from the consumers. This can be done through focusing on a certain group of people who may be composed of your target market. Before going any further though, you first have to identify who you plan to sell your products to. This is where the process of identifying your target market comes in.

    The Benefits Of Buzz Marketing

Buzz-marketing is important because it allows the consumer to decide for themselves whether or not we should buy a product right away. The buzz marketers put the fate of the company’s products in the hands of the consumer themselves. Here are some of the most salient points that will show off the importance and benefits of the concept even further.

    Effective promotions.

This is the cheapest form of advertising.
It allows the company to focus on enhancing the product itself and not on the promotional campaign.
It helps the company gain a regular fan base which can, therefore, build a positive reputation among consumers.
Creating Publicity: Positive and Negative Buzz

As soon as you identify your target market, you can now proceed with pursuing your goal. Most advertisers employ this strategy by allowing a certain group of people who were trained in the art of human psychology to infiltrate the crowd and subtly generate interest by talking about the company’s own products in a positive light. These people are known as buzz marketers. These people will then convince some of their friends and family members to buy these products by their words.

As soon as they can convince even one person to buy the product, everything else, as they say, would be history. They would be the ones to convince other people to give any product from certain companies a try.

Eventually, because of word-of-mouth, positive information will have spread across the community. This will in turn increase product sales significantly. This is an effective advertising tool that various agencies in the field should consider using. However, this advertising ploy can also be the trickiest plan that any advertising agency can use. How so? Read on to find out.

As mentioned earlier, buzz marketing can be a tricky marketing ploy because it relies heavily on the quality of the product that you are advertising. If it turns out that the company fails to deliver in terms of product quality and performance, buzz marketing will have failed as well.

    Buzz-Marketing Target Group

For you to know your target market, you have to ask the following questions: Do you plan to sell products that will cater to teens and young adults? Or would you rather sell products that will appeal to the older demographic? Whichever age group they choose, thorough research is certainly required.

There’s also a question about pricing. Will it be available and affordable enough for the lower brackets of society to buy it? It would be advisable to make your products not limited to a certain level of society. This way, you will have a larger consumer audience to cater to in the future.

How to Ensure the Success of Buzz Advertising and Marketing

To ensure its success even further, advertisers have to make sure that the products will be able to deliver what they purport to be able to do. For example, let’s say that you are promoting a shampoo through buzz marketing, if it claims to be a product that can make any user’s hair soft and silky, the product should be able to successfully do this without external help. Otherwise, the buzz advertising for the product will turn out to be false, which will affect the company negatively for sure.

    Finding the Right Channels

In addition, you also have to know the proper channels with which to employ buzz marketing effectively. If you are going to rely on word-of-mouth alone, free merchandise sampling can do the trick. You can also include your products among other items that can be given away as prizes for contests and such events. This way, people will be aware of the quality of the products that you have to offer without having to pay for them initially.

Doing this will see that the company’s reputation as the leading establishment when it comes to advertising and promotions.

Logo, Color and Culture / How To Use The Power of Color in Your Branding

How To Use The Power of Color in Your Branding

Tap into the power of color to express your brand attributes and values.

A brand’s logo and visual identity will comprise a number of visual cues, such as shapes, symbols, number, and words. But the number one visual component that people remember most is color. In fact, color increases brand recognition by up to 80%.

In this article, we will examine the use of color in branding and give you an 11-color guide to help you choose the perfect one for your brand.

    01. Red – For Danger, Passion, Excitement & Energy

Meanings: Red has a number of different contextual associations and in branding can deliver a highly visible punch. It has the ability to rev desire; and not surprisingly when it is the color of fire, danger, and blood on one hand; and love, sexuality and passion on the other. It is a bold, energetic and lively color that can symbolize strength, confidence and power.

Tips for use: Because red has such powerful meanings, it is perhaps best used with discretion. But, if other brands are avoiding red, it may be a great way to stand out from the crowd.

    02. Orange – Fresh, Youthful, Creative & Adventurous

Meanings: Blending the warmth of red and the optimism of yellow, orange communicates activity and energy. And of course it’s hard not to go past orange as the color of, well, oranges, and all their vitamin c byproducts, which immediately makes orange feel fresh and healthy. Orange is not for everyone (it was certainly the color of the decade in the 1970s) and can therefore tap into associations of youthfulness, creativity and adventure.

    03. Yellow – Optimistic, Cheerful, Playful & Happy

Meanings: Being the color of sunshine, yellow puts a smile on the dial. It is the most visible color from a distance (which is why it’s used for street signs) and communicates cheerfulness, friendliness, joy and energy (who doesn’t need more yellow in their life?) It can also be associated with mental clarity and intellect (again, who doesn’t need more yellow?) However, yellow is also a cautionary color used in life vests, police cordoning tape and hazardous areas.

Tips for use: Some shades of yellow can look cheap – although this may suit your brand image. So yellow is a great example of when to research consumer reaction to color appropriateness and make sure it is the right color for your product. Make sure to use good design if you want to avoid any feeling of cheapness.

    04. Green – Natural, Vitality, Prestige & Wealth

Meanings: Green has two very common meanings that are quite paradoxical; one being nature and the environment, and the other being finance and wealth. When it comes to nature, green represents plant life and growth and is consequently used to convey being ‘green’ in the environmental, sustainable, organic, natural sense of the word. And of course green is, as the saying goes, ‘the color of money’ (US money, that is) and therefore associated with wealth and stability.

Tips for use: Pick your shade of green carefully as brighter, lighter greens indicate growth, vitality and renewal; while darker, richer greens represent prestige, wealth and abundance.

    05. Blue – Communicative, Trustworthy, Calming & Depressed

Meanings: Blue is the most universally preferred color, perhaps for its very versatile qualities. It is a favorite color for companies that wish to convey reliability, trustworthiness and communication (I’m looking at you Facebook, Twitter and Samsung) and for expressing the authority and officialdom of organizations (oh, hey there Constable). It is also appreciated for it’s calming and harmonious qualities being associated with the sea and sky. However, being associated with the emotional feeling of being ‘blue’ it is also used to express sadness or depression.

Tips for use: Blue runs the gamut from corporate and dependable, to calming and tranquil, to feeling down in the dumps. So just like green, choose your shade wisely. Or even avoid it altogether if it’s a popular color in your market segment.

    06. Purple – Royalty, Majesty, Spiritual & Mysterious

Meanings: Purple is a low arousal color. It is traditionally associated with royalty, majesty or nobility as well as having a spiritual or mysterious quality. Darker shades often represent luxury or opulence while lighter lavender shades are quite feminine, sentimental and even nostalgic.

Tips for use: Purple is best used for targeting a female audience as research suggests that while women list purple as a top-tier color, it doesn’t even rank for men. Overall, purple is not a common color for branding and in fact Cadbury is the only purple brand in the Forbes list of the 100 most valuable brands from 2014.

Meanings: Brown gets a lot of use in this era of organic and natural food, beauty and products. Nature inspired it represents a feeling of wholesomeness, orderliness, and being grounded. It is simple, strong, durable and honest and may express that your brand has better things to care about than superfluous color, when really… (mind trick!).

Tips: Use caution with brown as it can remind people of dirt. On the other hand it’s also great to cover up dirt if the product you’re branding has anything to do with soil, dirt or mud.

    08. Pink – Feminine, Sentimental, Romantic & Exciting

Meanings: Pink has long been (stereotypically) associated with females and is often viewed as being ‘girly.’ However, like all colors, pink is quite diverse and the level of intensity can impact its meaning. Pale pink, often marketed as the official color of little girls, represents sweetness while dusty pink can be more sentimental and light pink more romantic. At the other end of the scale, hot pink indicates youthfulness, energy, fun and excitement.

Tips for use: Identify the mood and feeling you want to muster and choose your pink accordingly. Don’t shy away from using pink for genderless brands (like T-Mobile does) as you may be targeting personality rather than demographics.

    09. Black – Sophisticated, Formal, Luxurious & Sorrowful

Meanings: While color is more likely to increase brand recognition there’s no reason black – when used appropriately – can’t be just as distinctive, memorable and communicative of a brand’s attributes. Black is to be taken seriously. It represents power, luxury, sophistication and exclusivity on one hand; and death, evil and mystery on the other. From formality to mourning to power, black is bold, classic and not to be fooled with.

Tips for use: Contrast a bright color against black; use gold foil for touch of luxe; or combine it with white for a bold and simple statement. Think about texture and how matte or glossy black might change the message of your brand.

    10. White – Purity, Simplicity, Innocence & Minimalism

Meanings: White represents simplicity, purity, innocence and perfection. And if you had to identify one brand that has used white to convey its brand message to perfection it would have to be Apple – white represents the simplicity of the products in both their form and function. White also comes with a starkness or sterility about it, which is often used be designers to convey a minimalist aesthetic and clean, modern quality.

Tips for use: It is difficult to inject personality into your brand when using white, so make sure your brand personality is about simplicity, purity, and transparency.

    11. Multicolor – Variety

Meanings: Of course, what about mixing multiple colors in one logo, such as Google, the Olympics and NBC? Diverse color generally indicates variety – be it representative of people, countries, or offerings.

    Tips for use
: Mo’ colors equals mo’ money when it comes to printing so consider your budget (although this won’t matter if you’re dealing online only). Pay attention to how your choice of colors work together both printed and digitally as the end result may vary with different screens and different printers.

Ready to inject some colorful flair into your brand?

Choosing the “right” color for your brand isn’t easy, but it is important, and you should spend some time choosing the color(s) you think best represents your brand. Start with these questions:

What words represent your brand’s personality?
    What colors represent those words?
What color suits the characteristics of your product / service?
What color do your competitors use?

Branding / Ten ways to build a brand for your small business
    « on: February 27, 2018, 11:40:37 AM »
Ten ways to build a brand for your small business

Branding is just as important for small businesses as it is for big names. Indeed, many corporate brands try to look more like small firms in order to appeal to consumers that prefer to support independent brands. Dan Einzig of agency Mystery explains how to develop your own brand identity

    1. Start by defining your brand.

Review the product or service your business offers, pinpoint the space in the market it occupies and research the emotive and rational needs and concerns of your customers. Your brand character should promote your business, connect with your customer base and differentiate you in the market.

    2. When building your brand, think of it as a person.

Every one of us is an individual whose character is made up of beliefs, values and purposes that define who we are and who we connect with. Our personality determines how we behave in different situations, how we dress and what we say. Of course for people it's intuitive and it's rare that you even consider what your own character is, but when you're building a brand it's vital to have that understanding.

    3. Consider what is driving your business.

What does it believe in, what is its purpose and who are its brand heroes. These things can help establish your emotive brand positioning and inform the identity and character for brand communications.

    4. Aim to build long-term relationships with your customers.

Don't dress up your offering and raise expectations that result in broken promises, create trust with honest branding - be clear who your company is and be true to the values that drive it every day.

    5. Speak to your customers with a consistent tone of voice.

It will help reinforce the business' character and clarify its offering so customers are aware exactly what to expect from the product or service.

    6. Don't repeat the same message in the same way over and over again.

Alternatively, aim to make your key messages work together to build a coherent identity.

    7. Don't try to mimic the look of chains or big brands.

Try and carve out your own distinctive identity. There is a big consumer trend towards independent establishments, and several chains are in fact trying to mimic an independent feel to capture some of that market. Truly independent operators can leverage their status to attract customers who are looking for something more original and authentic, that aligns with how feel about themselves.

    8. Be innovative, bold and daring - stand for something you believe in.

Big brands are encumbered by large layers of bureaucracy, preventing them from being flexible and reacting to the ever-changing needs of their customers. Those layers of decision-makers can make it hard for them to be daring with their branding.

    9. Always consider your branding when communicating with customers.

Don't lose your pride or dilute your brand positioning with indiscriminate discounting. Try offering more, rather than slashing prices. Promotions are an opportunity to reinforce your brand mission.

    10. The old way of stamping your logo on everything won't cut it.

The future of branding is fluid and engaging - respect your customers' intelligence by not giving everything away up front. Generate some intrigue and allow them to unearth more about your brand for themselves. This is the way to foster ambassadors who revel in telling other people what they have discovered.

Digital Marketing / The importance of Social Marketing Today!

The importance of Social Marketing Today!

Social Marketing shows that including social media marketing in our marketing efforts will bring results, engage the audience, and create success. Social Media will inform your active customers about updates in your products or services. It will also educate the audience about your company. By educating the audience, it will bring new followers, fans, and leads.

Social Marketing will empower your credibility by turning your customers into powerful brand advocates. This will engage them in peer-to-peer sharing and influence marketing. Using different outlets such as Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and YouTube will create visibility for your brand or company.

Therefore, stay focused and chose the right outlets for your business. For example, if you sell shoes, it’s a must for your company to use Pinterest and Instagram, or if you sell services such as Internet Marketing, it’s a must to write blogs, create video tutorials, and images.

You need to incorporate Social Marketing in your entire sales funnel. This is something simple but time consuming. It has been there for your customers after and before the sale. The social marketing presence is vital and you have to practice all the steps. For a better understanding, let’s go over the following example:

You can start promoting your business products and services in the social media outlets that match your target market. Then offer things to the audience so that they can sign up for your newsletters or to get prizes. This will bring you leads. Then, you can make the sale. Afterwards you should collect customers’ important dates on file, such as your customers’ birthdays and anniversaries. You may use those dates to say Hi to them and post a card on their walls through the social media outlets. Another idea is giving a discount to them for their special date. Believe me they will come back to you every time they need one of your services.

You simply need to invest time and passion for it. Social Marketing is what your business needs. I’m sure my advice will generate new revenues and several new followers. Don’t hesitate to start now!
